How do lasers work?
Lasers work by bouncing a beam of light back and forth between mirrors
and lenses, amplifying its strength. When the beam is powerful enough
it is released in a short pulse of energy or light. This burst of
energy causes a carefully controlled change in the tissue.
The color and energy of the laser
light depends upon what type of material is being stimulated. Many
materials are used in lasers such as carbon dioxide, ruby crystals,
and argon, which is a gas similar to that used in fluorescent lights.
The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulated
Emission of Radiation. Medical lasers use an intense beam of light
to gently remove unwanted, damaged, or diseased cells without harming
the surrounding healthy cells. The laser's energy may be delivered
as a continuous wave of light or in pulses, depending on the treatment
and the type of laser used.
How do lasers treat skin?
The Laser
Clinic laser treatments are new, non-invasive ways to treat your
skin. The laser employs a revolutionary, patented laser process
with DCD™ (Dynamic Cooling Device), which targets and heats
collagen in the upper dermis while protecting the epidermis. This
allows the laser to target specific skin cells while providing the
patient maximum comfort.
How do lasers remove hair?
The Laser Clinic uses revolutionary high energy Alexandrite and
Yag lasers which emit a gentle beam of light that passes through
the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed.
The laser energy is transformed into
heat, which destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin
unaffected. The skin is further protected during treatment by a
Dynamic Cooling Device™ where cryogen is sprayed onto the
skin cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased
comfort.
How do lasers treat veins and pigmented
lesions?
The Laser Clinic laser targeting veins and pigmented lesions produces
an intense but gentle burst of light that selectively destroys the
blood vessels of the desired target, without damaging the surrounding
tissue. After laser treatment the surrounding tissue is left intact.
Are lasers safe?
For the most part lasers are very safe. However, as with any medical
procedure, there are risks and benefits. Scarring, pain, lack of
permanent results, delayed healing up to several months, and other
risks are uncommon, but possible. Sometimes additional treatment
may be necessary after laser treatment. Lasers have been used for
many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures including
treatment of facial and leg veins, age spots and rejuvenating the
skin on the face.
